For sale, aBELIEVE RARE & ANTIQUE SOUVENIR PAPERWEIGHT..(1880 to 90'S) BUT "AS FOUND" BUT STILL DISPLAYS WELL WITH MINING RELICS.......
glass souvenir
once issued by
A MINING CAR FOUNDRY
and it says on it "
HOCKENSMITH & WAGONER -- FOUNDERS & MACHINISTS -- MANUFACTURERS OF (pictorials of mining ore car wheels) MINE CARS - GENERAL CASTINGS - & COMMON SENSE MINE CAR WHEELS - 60,000 NOW IN USE WRITE FOR CIRCULARS & PRICES - CAPACITY 500 PER WEEK
" in 1890-1900 era, factory located in historic old downtown
IRWIN PENNSYLVANIA
This is a terrific antique MINING EQUIPMENT related advertising "paperweight"....I believe in doing a little research that this company started around 1878 in Irwin Pa........so this likely issued in the 1895 to maybe 1920 era
THIS IS BELIEVE RARE, BUT AS MENTIONED IS IN "AS FOUND" CONDITION....IT HAS WHAT APPEARS TO BE A POLISHED CHIP ON THE FRONT EDGE TOWARDS BASE, AND DAMAGE ON BASE.....(see gallery images 7 & 8)......SO IT "IS WHAT IT IS"...BUT ORIGINAL OWNER HAD IT DISPLAYED STANDING UPRIGHT (image 2) WITH MINING COLLECTIBLES, AND REALLY YOU DONT NOTICE THE DAMAGE..THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT...AMAZING MINE CAR SUBJECT MATTER....JUST A GREAT PC OF EARLY MINING CAR RELATED ADVERTISING
The scenic and historic town of Irwin is located in Westmoreland
County Pa....but obviously this company shipped mining cars & wheels all over the USA, and this paperweight was found in Arizona
The paperweight is what I would call light clear colored glass, in as found condition but all graphics are fine, rectangular in shape, and typical size...about 4" tall x 2 1/2" wide x 1" tall....it is dense and heavy, weighs about 14 ounces
Gallery pictures should show you all you need to know, took pictures from many angles. (see gallery pictures)
